For every model simulation step applied, relevant Resource Demand figures are recalculated. The Resource Demand tab in the bottom section of the Modelling Screen allows you to view and analyse the data.
Resource Demand Tab Overview
Clicking on the Resource Demand tab shows the 'Data' view by default:
Resource Demand 'Data' View
The Data view is a spreadsheet style grid view, presenting all roles from the resource pool with resource capacity and demand-related figures over time. By default the grid presents annual Remaining capacity figures, with heatmap-style highlighting of shortages (with negative Remaining capacity figures showing in red).
Expand/Collapse
Using the buttons in the top left of the grid, you can expand all Roles to show Team Members within roles. You can also expand from Annual to Monthly granularity of figures shown.
Available Columns
The column selector allows you to pick the columns to be displayed in the grid. The figures shown in the selected columns are calculated totals relating to the aggregation level of a particular cell (e.g. showing the total value by Role/Year, by Team Member/Month or any combination of those). |
Here are detailed explanations of these columns:
Field | Comment |
Columns reflecting values AFTER model simulations applied: |
|
Capacity |
Capacity (in days), as defined in the Resource Capacity table for the respective resource(s) |
Demand |
Demand (in days) for the respective resource(s) and time period, as defined within relevant projects. |
Remaining |
Calculated as Capacity minus Demand |
% Util. | Calculated demand as percentage of capacity |
Columns reflecting original values (copied from live data) Values shown in columns below are copied from live data at the time of creating the model, or refreshed using the Sync function. Hence they may not reflect current live data if project or resource data has changed since the last sync. |
|
Orig. Capacity | Capacity as above |
Orig. Demand | Demand as above (before simulations applied) |
Orig. &Util. | % Util as above (before simulations applied) |
Column reflecting variance between original and modelled values |
|
Var. Demand | Variance calculated as Demand minus Orig. Demand (useful to review the impact of simulations) |
Heatmap Selector
The Heatmap control shows the same columns and allows you to tick the ones you wish to see with heatmap background highlight. The default choice is the Remaining column, indicating any negative values in red to point out resource shortages.
Viewing Demand Details
In monthly view, hovering over a Demand or Remaining figure shows a breakdown of Demand against the role/resource:
There are three types of demand figures that are potentially shown:
- List of projects in the model and their Demand (AFTER simulations applied) - this tells you which projects to manipulate in this model to impact the demand for this role/resource in this particular month.
- Other projects (demand from projects in the system, not included in the model - shown if field Include all demand was set to 'Yes' in the model set-up )
- Programmes (any demand defined for this role/resource at programme level)
Other Analytics Tabs
The Data view is augmented by various charts that can be accessed via other sub-tabs.
Note the controls above these charts, allowing you to set the start end and end periods of the time-phased data, as well as filtering by a specific role:
The charts available are the following:
Remaining
Comparing Remaining Capacity over time (original vs model)
Demand
Comparing Demand over time (original vs model) - the inverse of the Remaining chart
% Utilization
Comparing % Utilization over time (original vs model)
Demand vs Total Capacity
Comparing Demand vs Total Capacity over time (original vs model)
Demand by Role
