Purpose of Cloning
While working with a model you may reach a point where the simulations you have applied represent a scenario you wish to keep on file.
Cloning lets you copy the model in its current state to a clone and thereafter use the clone to create further simulations. Further clones may be created from the clone or original model, to end up with a variety of scenarios. You can then compare scenario clones, present them as alternative choices to management and ultimately pick one of them as the choice to take forward and apply to your actual portfolio.
Creating a Clone
To create a clone, click the Clone button at the top of the modelling screen. You will be presented with these choices:
These are explained as follows:
Field | Comment |
Name |
The name of the model clone (suggested as '<Current Model Name > 'Clone'). We recommend that you assign a name to the clone that clearly connects it to the model being cloned (as per the system-suggested name based on the Current Model Name). This will be important when you come to compare models, as it most likely clones that you will be comparing and you will be using the name to identify them. |
Include Data |
Tick this to create a complete copy. If you untick this, then only the model definition and original project/resource data will be copied, without the simulations you have applied in the model being cloned. |
Click OK to kick off the Clone creation.
The process may take some time to complete, depending on the data volume of the current model to be copied to the clone.
