Schedule Hub stores all MS Project .mpp files in a dedicated SharePoint Online document library, referred to as the Schedule Hub library.
Key Characteristics
The Schedule Hub library provides a centralised, cloud-based storage area that enables:
- SharePoint version history (major and minor versions)
- Check-in / check-out to prevent conflicting edits
- Ability to restore previous schedule versions
- Metadata applied at file level (e.g. Project ID, Owner, Business Unit, Status)
This provides a significantly stronger governance and audit model than unmanaged file shares, while being more light-weight than Project Online.
Seamless MS Project Desktop Integration
Schedule Hub is designed around MS Project Desktop as the primary authoring tool.
Capabilities include:
- One-click open of schedules from the Schedule Hub Power App
- Direct editing in MS Project Desktop
- Save-back to SharePoint with version control
From a Project Manager’s perspective, the experience remains familiar and efficient, minimising change management and training effort.
Schedule Templates and Standardisation
Schedule Hub supports the creation of schedules from MS Project templates maintained by the enterprise.
Templates can include definitions of local custom fields for Tasks, which are thus replicated to other schedules.
This enables a lightweight alternative to Project Online’s Enterprise Project Types (EPTs), supporting standardisation without complex configuration.
