Accessing Project Documents

To access the Project documentation register, click on the Documents tab within the Project.

This shows you a view of documents on file for this Project, which actually reside in a SharePoint folder attached to this Project.

Working with a Document in SharePoint

The above view of documents allows the creation of a new document through the + New button shown above the list of documents. However, this will not give you access to any document templates that have been deployed.

Also, the above view does not allow you to edit documents using the associated Microsoft Office desktop app (i.e. a Word document is only editable in Word Online from here, but you may wish to edit it in MS Word on your desktop).

To access full document functionality you, therefore, need to navigate to the SharePoint environment itself.

Accessing the SharePoint Folder for Your Project

In the navigation bar above the document list, click Open Location, then click Documents on Default Site 1:

This will take you to the SharePoint folder connected to your Project:

You can now make use of the full SharePoint document library features to maintain your Project documents, i.e.

  • Create new documents based on document templates (click + New at the top and select the desired template from the drop-down list).
  • Edit documents either in the desktop or online app.
  • Initiate approval workflows if any are deployed (select a document and click Automate, then select the desired workflow from the list).
