Resource Demand and Investment figures are entered for a Project within a ‘Time Window’ of monthly periods determined by the Start and Finish Date of the Project as defined in the Summary tab:
These dates may only be provisional, particularly if the Project is still at the Concept stage. At some point it may be determined that the Time Window needs to be:
- Extended or compressed (i.e. Project delivery will take more or less time than previously assumed).
- Moved (i.e. rescheduled to start at a different date).
Please read below for guidance on how this is done, and the validation applied by the system.
Extending or Compressing Project Time Window
Changing the Project Start or Finish Dates in the Summary section will add or remove months from the Time Window (click Refresh before navigating to Resource Demand or Investment tab to see the update).
The following validation is applied upon Save:
- Time Window cannot be reduced if this would remove months that already have figures attached.
- The Time Window cannot be outside of the Programme’s Start and Finish Dates (in other words, Projects must be scheduled within the Time Window of their Programme).
- The Project must not have any Actuals, otherwise it cannot be moved:
Moving the Time Window
Power Framework has a ‘Move Project’ function which will move Resource Demand and Investment figures with the Time Window (so you don’t have to manually re-enter them for different months).
Click on the Move button in the top menu:
You are now requested to change the Project Start Date:
Enter the new Start Date and click OK.
If validation is passed, then this feature will move the Project to the new Start Date, it will recalculate the Finish Date and move all Resource Demand and Investment figures accordingly.
The following validation is applied and may prevent the move:
- The Project cannot be moved at all if Actual Costs are recorded in the Investment tab.
- The Project cannot be moved to the chosen Start Date if Budget is allocated by the Programme (as explained in Investment, Programme) which would be outside of the new time window.
- The new Time Window of the moved Project cannot be outside of the Programme’s Start and Finish Dates.
