At the Portfolio level, the Investment feature (accessed via the Investment tab) simply maintains Portfolio level budget.
Budgets are time-phased (i.e. are stored at monthly level, but figures can be entered at quarterly and annual level).
The time window of periods shown is defined by the Start and Finish date of the Portfolio, as defined in the Portfolio’s Summary tab.
They are entered segmented to Funding Source level, with budget totals calculated at Budget Category level as well as grand totals for the Portfolio.
Maintaining Portfolio Budgets
To enter budget figures, expand the Budget Category to reveal the list of Funding Sources, providing the detail lines for budget figure entry. Enter amounts at annual level or expand the time phases at the top to quarterly or monthly level as required.
Portfolio Budget Reporting
There is no facility to allocate Portfolio budgets to Programmes in this feature.
Instead, Programmes define their own budgets (as described in Investment, Programme, Define Programme Budget), and reporting is available to compare the total of Programme budgets to the Portfolio budget and calculate variances.
In this report sample, ‘Portfolio Remaining Budget’ is the result of this variance calculation and represents any Portfolio budget not yet taken up by Programmes or a Portfolio budget deficit if it is a negative amount:
